Contrasts Of Kandy

The city could be a real cultural gem to explore, it served as the Sinhalese Capital – defying Portuguese and Dutch rule for three centuries before being taken by the British in 1818. Kandy includes a unique character, maintaining its sense of tradition whilst incorporating a diverse colonial footprint.

Start by traveling to the Royal Botanical Gardens, famous for its dazzling variations of orchids and its resident colony of fruit. Move on to visit the Garrison Cemetery – housing the graves of the famous European planters and troops, their stories remembered to this day. Then travel to St. Paul’s Church, an amazing piece of Neo-gothic Victorian Architecture style.
